The Calamity of the World Around us

Bible Verse: Proverbs 14:32 "When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in the death the righteous seek refuge in God."

Insight: The reality is that we may become weary over time in our faith, and we may begin to ask ourselves if it's worth it to put our flesh aside in a world that goes completely against God's word. We have so much to look forward to that God has promised us for our eternity and future. This is exactly what faith is. We cannot see the future—yes, we read it in the Bible, but seeing it is a lot easier than trusting what God says. This is where we grow in our faith, and this is where we cling tighter to the truth of God's word. When the world all around us is trying to push us down and take us in every other direction, we can take heart because God has overcome the world. Let's be people who cling to the righteousness of God—who look at the calamity of this world and the wicked people around us and still stand tall walking in the truth of God. We get to seek refuge in God when the world around us is at constant odds. We get to walk in God's righteousness and truth every single day.

Work application: We are called to show God in every aspect of our lives. It may be hard to put aside our flesh at times when we compare how we conduct business versus how others do. But, I believe when we put God at the forefront of who we are, we will see how much God provides for us in our work lives. Sarah Y. Tse, co-author of From Illusion to Reality, writes on this truth. She expresses that when we make a positive impact on this world, it should be for God's glory and not our own. She emphasizes how we were put on this Earth to put our talents, abilities, education, etc. for the good of others. Our mindset needs to shift from serving ourselves to serving others. The world around us may be self-serving (especially in a work setting), but we are not of this world! Be self-sacrificing in your work-life regardless of how hard it may be, and watch how as you honor God your work ethic will grow.

Grateful: I am grateful that I have a hope for the future and that I can put my trust in what God says.
